Set up Immersive Translate

Bilingual web and PDF translation extension, fast and cheap with CherryChat models

Steps

  1. Open the translation service settings

Click the Immersive Translate icon in the browser toolbar → Settings, then choose Translation Services on the left.

  2. Open the OpenAI service settings

Find "OpenAI" in the service list and open its settings (the button name varies by version). Choose to use your own API key rather than the membership service.

  3. Fill in the key, model and endpoint

In the model dropdown choose the custom model option and type the name. The endpoint field is under "More settings"; enter the full path ending in /v1/chat/completions.

    • API key: sk-your-key
    • Custom model: deepseek-v4-flash
    • Custom API endpoint: https://gpt.cherrychat.org/v1/chat/completions (Must be the full URL; the bare domain returns 404)
  4. Lower the request rate and save

Set "max requests per second" to about 5 (the official recommendation), keep "max paragraphs per request" at the default, and save.

  5. Make it the default and test

Back in Basic Settings, set the translation service to OpenAI. Open any English page and click the floating button or press Alt+A (Option+A on Mac); bilingual text means it works.
